You have noticed how Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, and Danai Gurira’s Okoye made an entrance in Avenger’s Endgame. It’s becoming more clear that many want to see an all-female Marvel film including stars like Brie Larson and Scarlett Johansson.
If enough people in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen
“I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to [Marvel Chief Kevin Feige] and we were like, We are in this together, we want to do this. What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, but it is something that we’re passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen,” said Larson. Marvel lacked a female protagonist in the first 20 of its films, however, the last three films have been female-focused, while Black Widow gets her first solo film next year. Feige too has expressed his interest in making a women-centric Marvel film even as Captain Marvel grossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office in 2019. There was always a misconception that female superhero films do not do well at the box office, but films like DC’s Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel have proved all critics wrong.
This group of powerful actresses are unstoppable when they come together
According to Larson, the filming of Endgame along with such powerful co-stars gave her the feeling of being part of a coven; it was truly a breath of fresh air for her. Scarlett Johansen too has played an integral role in the Marvel universe and she too is looking forward to an all-female film, saying, “I don’t know what my future is in that world. Obviously, it’s a little more opaque for my character. But that group of actresses is so incredibly powerful and when they come together, it’s explosive and unstoppable.” So, will Marvel listen to the desires of fans and stars and give the people what they want? Well, we shall see because there’s surely not a lack of strong characters and talent, but will they cash into it.
